Ruminations are deep thoughts. To ruminate means to ponder, to muse, think deeply about something. It comes from the word ruminant, which is an animal like a cow that regurgitates partially digested food from its first stomach back into its mouth for a second chewing. Thus, the expression “to chew the cud,” meaning to reflect on or think over. In that regard, I certainly hope that I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew.
